Ron Howard Williams was born on March 1, 1954, in Duncan, Oklahoma, to Rance Howard and Jean Speegle Howard. He is of Dutch, Irish, English, Scottish, and German ancestry.

Ron’s family moved to Hollywood in 1958, but they eventually moved to Burbank after three years.

He studied with Desilu Studios and then John Burroughs High School. He then went on to the University of Southern California’s School of Cinematic Arts but dropped out without obtaining a degree.

In 1975, Ron married Cheryl Alley. Together, they have four children, Bryce Dallas Howard, Jocelyn Carlyle, and Paige Howard and Reed Cross.

Career

Ron’s first appearance in the film industry was in The Journey. He has also appeared in The DuPont Show with June Allyson, The Twilight Zone, Dennis the Menace, The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis, The Eleventh Hour, The Smith Family, M*A*S*H, The Waltons, I Spy and The Cheyenne Show.

From 1960, he played the character of Opie Taylor in The Andy Griffith Show for eight seasons.

He played the role of Richie Cunningham on the show Happy Days.
