On 6 September 1996, Nicholas Diego Leanos was born to Mexican parents in the city of Redlands, California. He grew up poor and lived in motels most of his childhood, and he went to Redlands East Valley High School. However, he dropped out in his freshman year. He spent several years at home unemployed, but later took a job as a street cleaner, he also sold drugs.

He was having a rough time with drug addiction; this was as a result of trying Xanax for the first time in 2014. However, he was addicted for a few years until he kicked the habit before joining the rap industry. Lil Xan later pursued a career in photography in support of his rap friends, and he began rapping after his camera was stolen. The two released the collaboration ‘ Life or Died’ in august 2018; however, the couple broke up in September 2018, accusing each other of being unfaithful. Lil Xan claimed that the couple label forced the relationship, Columbia, however, he later admitted that most of the reasons the breakup happened were because of him, this was on an interview on Open Late with Peter Rosenberg.
