The entire body of the Bengal monitor lizard is gray or gray-green. A typical characteristic is that the lizard has yellow freckles on its body. Its adult body length is about 90cm, and its tail is about 50cm longer than its body length. The body weight of an adult is about 10 kilograms.
The Bengal monitor lizard’s head is triangular in shape. In the wild, males are consistently more than 42% heavier than females. The nostrils are eye-shaped and located in the center between the eyes and the muzzle. The western subspecies and the eastern subspecies can be distinguished based on characteristics such as body color and scale shape. Adult Bengal monitor lizards are generally gray or gray-green, with gray-black patterns from the chin to the abdomen and tail. These marks are usually darker in the west and lighter in the east. These ventral markings often become darker as age increases. The heaviest male Bengal monitor lizard recorded in the morning was 7.18 kg.
